SUMMARY:ENSEMBLE - Food\, Art & Community Dinner
DESCRIPTION:“What can art mean for food?”To mark the opening night of the pilot edition of EDIBLE: Food + Design Confluence in Antwerp\, the International Center for Food Design (i-fooddesign) presents ENSEMBLE – Food\, Art & Community Dinner on Wednesday\, 14 October from 18:00 onwards at Lucy’s\, Paleisstraat 41\, 2018 Antwerp. The event is made possible with the support of the District of Antwerp.ENSEMBLE is a shared dining experience exploring how food can function as a universal language—connecting people across cultures\, generations and lived experiences through art\, storytelling and the act of eating together. The evening begins with BELONGING\, a participatory artwork designed by Vishwa Patel (UAE/IT). Guests are invited to contribute their own recipes\, memories and reflections\, collectively exploring food\, cultural diversity and community in Antwerp. This is followed by an interactive Food ART Gallery designed by Raluca Blaga (RO/JP)\, before guests gather around the table for a shared meal featuring edible and thought-provoking projects by Marinella Protopapa (IT)\, Clarisse Floch (FR)\, Kristina Breznik (SI) and Tanushree Kulkarni (USA/IN).Through food\, art\, film and conversation\, ENSEMBLE transforms dinner into a participatory cultural and educational experience. Each edible project becomes a starting point for exchanging perspectives and reflecting on the relationships between food\, creativity\, culture\, society and the future of our food systems.More than simply sharing a meal\, ENSEMBLE asks what can happen when different stories\, cultures and experiences are given a place at the same table.Participation is offered on a pay-what-you-can basis\, helping to keep the experience as inclusive and accessible as possible. Those who wish to contribute can help support the organisational costs and future development of the ENSEMBLE initiative.

SUMMARY:Invisible Connections
DESCRIPTION:Through herbs and food\, this aperitivo experience invites participants to explore often unseen connections\, meanings\, memories and perspectives\, discovering a new language that makes the invisible tangible. \n\n\n\nParticipants are divided according to a shared element: herbs. Here\, the identity of each one finds its place within the group\, and becomes a story to share\, encouraging active listening. \n\n\n\nWhile interacting with a mirror installation that moves the attention to details that usually remain unnoticed\, the designer\, Martino Fiorito (IT)\, narrates a storytelling\, showing hidden forms of communication. What does each plant have to tell?   \n\n\n\nFinally food becomes the medium to communicate\, and the focus moves to collaboration. Each group is challenged to translate an intention into something they can share\, using herbs and ingredients as their creative language. \n\n\n\nThe experience ends with a moment of exchange: the groups mix\, participants find a new mate\, and share their messages with a bite\, using food as a universal language.

SUMMARY:Foodpilgrims Heritage Tasting Walk
DESCRIPTION:Where does our food future really come from? In honour of UN World Food Day 2026\, on the morning of Friday 16th October 2026\, de Foodarchaeloog Jeroen van Vaerenbergh will guide an enthusiastic group of Foodpilgrims on a 15km sensory journey from Rupelmonde to Antwerp.A culinary migration from the 16th century Renaissance to sustainable future food\, Foodpilgrims is designed to connect Antwerp’s upcoming Smaakhaven with its origins. Between the 16th-century tidal mill of Rupelmonde and the city\, participants will experience how food\, landscape\, and innovation have always grown together.Through walking\, distance regains meaning and food history becomes tangible. As a living prologue to the Smaakhaven\, Foodpilgrims demonstrates that true innovation is rooted in craftsmanship and ingenuity. The story connects city and hinterland\, past and future\, and invites us to look differently at how we produce\, share\, and appreciate food.Along the way\, participants stop to sample the food innovations that time has to offer\, created by today’s Flemish tastemakers including gingerbread 2050 of artistic baker Laura Geurten\, Free Spirit bread of De Bakkerij etc.Tip: Wear comfortable walking shoes\, carry an umbrella and a bottle of water to stay hydrated.About de Foodarcheoloog:Jeroen Van Vaerenbergh\, De Foodarcheoloog\, investigates archaeological food remains and uncovers fascinating stories about the everyday survival of ordinary people in the past\, revealing a sustainable message that still resonates today.
